We have been asked recently if we are still doing viewings on properties and if people can still move house.
The simple answer is no.
The government guidelines are that people should only leave their own homes when urgent and necessary. Having a look at a new property is neither of those things. We are unable to visit people in their homes, so valuations, viewings, photographs and videos should not happen until the restrictions are lifted.
Those properties still coming to the market, on Rightmove, Zoopla or OnTheMarket may have already had these photos and information gathered previous to lockdown.
Alternatively, sellers and landlords may have supplied their own information or photographs via email etc.
The government has advised that Estate Agency is NOT a key worker and therefore should not be operating any form of business that can not be performed at home.
We are here to assist our current clients and to advise our new clients that the process has become longer and delays are both advised and inevitable.
The safety of our clients and ourselves is paramount over any income that we may be losing. We have heard that some agents in the UK are still continuing to operate using social distancing. Photographing empty properties, leaving a property open and waiting in the car while people view? As far as we understand it, this is a blatant disregard for the measures put in place by the British Government and a dangerous action to take.
We urge everyone to be sensible, rather than twisting Government advice to fit their own situation.
We are hopeful that things will return back to normal soon, but for now stay home and stay safe. Not just for yourself, but for the rest of the country.
